Bedouin Tent – Brooklyn, NY

Bedouin Tent is a hidden gem serving up authentic middle eastern food. Everything at this Jordanian-owned restaurant is made by hand, in-house and you can definitely taste it.

While not a fully vegan restaurant, they are vegan friendly. Many of their stand-out items are plant-based by nature. Think mezzes like hummus, falafel, baba ganoush, tabouleh – all vegan. This place gets bonus points for freshness, simplicity and perfect execution.

Fall is just about here in Brooklyn and it was a soup and sandwich kind of day. Today I ordered a bowl of the Harira soup and their famous Falafel sandwich.

Bedouin Tent confirmed that their Harira soup has a vegetable stock base and includes chickpeas, parsley, cilantro, celery, tomato sauce, lentil & spices. Emphasis on the spices. A blend turmeric, cumin and what tastes like a hint of cinnamon. Eating this soup is like being wrapped up in the comfiest sweater ever. Oh – it also comes with a steaming hot, freshly baked pita for your dipping pleasures.

The Falafel sandwich is more like a wrap. They start out with an oven fresh pita. Then, four magically crispy and fluffy falafel balls are lined in a row. They’re topped with ripe tomatoes, greens and drizzled with their house spicy tahini sauce. I always ask for an extra helping of spicy tahini sauce, just sayin’.

Bedouin Tent’s falafel is by far my favorite in all of NYC. The quality ingredients and simplistic approach takes me back to my time in Lebanon. This is the real deal.

The space itself is very cozy and has a home-like feel to it. Colorful tapestries are draped on the walls and interesting lamps hang from the ceiling.

If the weather allows, their private backyard is the perfect escape from a busy Atlantic Avenue.
